Nickname: Le Douanier Rousseau
Naive (untrained) Artist- He took up painting as a hobby
Began painting at age 40
The scenes of his paintings vary but he is best known for his jungle scenes 49 of his paintings were on exhibition at the National Gallery of Art
in Washington, D.C. from July 6, 2006 through October 15, 2006

Rousseau's works are great tools to integrate across the curriculum at any age or grade level!

I found this artist interesting because he started doing art in his spare time. I like that he became a famous artist and had no formal training. His jungle scences are very colorful.

I love his artwork. All of his paintings look so real and it depicts nature so well. I think his work can be used in Science for Kindergarteners.

I study Art Appreciation at a Junior College I attended several years ago and I liked Roussea's work. Today I find his works are great tools to integrate across the curriculum for any grade and especially for beginning teachers.
